Welcome to Troop 490
We are part of the Mecklenburg County Council, Etowah District and are chartered by St. Nektarios Greek Orthodox Church. Our troop number is a reference to the the famous Battle of Marathon that occurred in 490 BC. The battle is considered significant because the defeat of the Persians here preserved a democratic way of life in Ancient Greece.
Our Troop Meetings are held on Sundays at 3:45 PM. Meetings are held at St. Nektarios Greek Orthodox Church on the upper level of the Spiritual Life Center. The address is 5108 Kuykendall Road, Charlotte, NC 28270.
Our goal is to prepare our youth for life by instilling the values of the Scout Oath and Law and supporting the four aims of scouting in a fun and safe environment. These four aims are citizenship, character, personal fitness and leadership. This is accomplished through: living the ideals, belonging to a troop, advancement, family involvement, activities, serving the community, and the uniform.
All leaders are required to complete training to insure proper knowledge and maintenance of a safe environment at all meetings and events. Additionally, our leaders are encouraged to attend regular Scout training events and monthly round tables to increase their breadth and depth of Scouting knowledge.
